Cody PTA Meetings:
The Cody PTA meetings are held once a month in the Cody School Library.
Free childcare is provided in the cafeteria and we strive to keep our meetings under one hour. Everyone is welcome.
You do not need to be a member of the Cody PTA to attend. Also, you can still be a member even if you can’t attend any or all meetings! Membership is $5 per person to join. We are a friendly, fun group and appreciate anyone willing to do what they can to help out such a great cause! There are many ways you can help. Inability to come to the PTA meetings is not a problem!
Watch your enews for invitations to upcoming meetings and ways that you can help our school.
Contact PTA President Allison Berg if you need information or would like to have a topic placed on the agenda at: 563-249-0200 or firstname.lastname@example.org

Food items will be available for purchase in the kitchen, so bring your appetites. We’ll be selling pizza, walking tacos, ice cream, baked goodies, candy, pop, water, and lemonade. There is no cost to play! So please stop by for a FREE night of CodyFamily fun! If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please email Kim Radcliff at email@example.com.
Curriculum Night and ELP Meeting
Curriculum Night is held just after the beginning of school for parents to meet teachers and learn about the curriculum as well as classroom and school expectations. Each teacher will present information in two sessions. Both sessions will be the same, but this gives families with students in more than one classroom to attend more than one session.
This is not a teacher conference; if you need discuss questions or concerns specific to your student(s), please schedule a time to do so outside of this evening.
Students are welcome to attend if necessary, but please be mindful that the information shared will be focused towards parents.
ELP – This ELP, Extended Learning Program, Information Meeting will be from 6:00 – 6:30 in the library; hosted by our new ELP Teacher, Mrs. Carolyn Halverson. She will share information about the program and answer any questions you may have. This is an optional program. If you are unable to attend, you can contact Mrs. Halverson.
All School Roller Skating Parties
Roller Skating Parties are fun social gatherings several times a year at the Eldridge Skate Park located at 400 S. 16th Avenue in Eldridge, Iowa – LINK TO GOOGLE MAPS. The rink is opened exclusively for Cody kids and their siblings/parents from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. This is NOT A DROP OFF event. All students must have one supervising adult with them at the event.
Bring your own clean skates/rollerblades or rent skates for $1.50. Admission is $3.00 per person for the first three parties. If average attendance is high enough at the first three parties, there will be no admission fee to the fourth party. We will let you know if that is the case via enews and the www.CodyPTA.com website.
Scholastic Book Fair will be open from 8am – Noon DETAILS
Cody welcomes all of our grandparents (a special guest is welcome if grandparents are unavailable). During this special morning, faculty and staff will welcome input from our guests about what school was like in the past. We feel connecting present-day education to education from the past can be a great learning experience for our students.
They will join the students in the classroom for join activities, go to a band concert, and have an opportunity to relax in our hospitality room for coffee and snacks any time they need a break.
*Note- Due to our growing number of students, and limited space in our cafeteria, our seating will not allow us to seat all of our special guests at lunch time. You will notice that our morning will conclude right before lunch at 11:30, a slight change from previous Grandparents’ Days.
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to our special guests. If you are looking for a good place to have lunch – please consider downtown LeClaire, Iowa! Go to www.visitleclaire.com for details!
Fall Frolic Family Carnival
Our Fall Frolic Carnival is the biggest event and fundraiser of the year for Cody School. Bring the whole family.
Games and prizes are included with admission of $3.00 per student and $1.00 per adult with a maximum of $10.00 per family.
This is not a drop off event but you won’t want to miss the excitement on the students’ faces.
Games are free once you are inside. Climb the giant slide or challenge a friend in the obstacle course. Enjoy a trip on the hayrack ride. There are prizes for games like the booger game, fishing game, TP toss, cake walk and much more. Don’t skip the cake walk and take your stab at the golf ball guessing game. The Gift Shop is a great stop for exciting items for purchase. Food will be available in the cafeteria to satisfy every appetite.
Students have been working on their class projects which will all be available in the silent auction. If you can’t make it to the big night, you can place a bid via email on the Cody PTA website using a credit card. Details on that coming soon.
Back by popular demand are our Teacher Baskets. Our generous Cody teachers have graciously donated their time and talent to the students. Look for your special teacher and drop a ticket for a chance to spend a fun time with them. Have McDonald’s or Happy Joe’s lunch with Mr. Bradley, or watch a movie and have Root Beer Floats with Mrs. Albrecht! Every Cody student who attends Fall Frolic will get a free ticket for the teacher raffle. To increase your chances of winning, purchase more chances to win! $1 for 1 ticket, or $5 for 6 tickets. Put all your tickets in the same teacher basket or place the tickets in multiple teachers baskets.
The silent auction baskets are an exciting opportunity to purchase everything from Hopper Passes, vacations or charming baskets from local vendors. Cody is lucky to have a supportive community and generous friends who make this silent auction something you won’t want to miss.
Suit up in your favorite beach attire and join us for the event of the year.

Scholastic Book Fair During Parent / Teacher Conferences
It’s book fair time again at Cody. Come check out the Spring selection on books we have.. Following are the times and dates we will be open for shopping in the Cody Workroom:
- Details Coming Soon
- On-line shopping available bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/codyelementaryschool6
The Scholastic/PTA book fairs are held three times per year – during the week of conferences in the Fall., during the week of conferences in the Spring, and a “buy one get one free” fair during the Cody Walkathon in May.
The book fairs provide parents with the opportunity to purchase fairly priced books and other educational materials for their children and for the classrooms. The profits earned go to Scholastic, however, based on these profits, the PTA earns Scholastic dollars, cash or a combination of the two, to be used to purchase materials for the library and the classrooms. Teachers also complete a wish list of books that they would like, and parents are then able to purchase these books directly for the classroom.
The support of the book fair has resulted in thousands of dollars of books and materials being added to the school each year.

2017 11th Annual WALKATHON
The Cody School PTA is excited to announce plans for the 10th annual “Cody Walkathon” set for 19th Walkathon with rain date of 22nd.
It is a fun event for the kids that will be held the during the school day and each child will have 30 minutes to walk (or jog or run) as many laps as they can along with their grades.
The theme this year is “Trekkin’ for Technology” with 100% of all funds raised will go towards Chromebook technology. Any funds leftover will be used to purchase additional equipment for the playground and PE classes such as balls, basketball nets, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, etc.
T-Shirt Sponsorship Opportunities
At this event, each student and faculty member will receive a t-shirt in the 6 colors of character with the logo on the front and the logos and list of sponsors on the back. (Approximately 400 shirts are printed). We are seeking sponsorships to cover the cost of these t-shirts so every student and faculty member will receive a free t-shirt.
Sponsorship levels are as follows and are requested no later than April 27th:
- $50-100 Level: Sponsors get their business, family name, organization, or individual name on the back of the shirt. For example, “The Deaton Family”, “Girl Scout Troop 2345” or “Metropolitan Properties, LeClaire, Iowa”
- $200 Level: Sponsors get their logo at the top on the back of the shirt. We will take logo sponsorships as space allows. 1 color logos should be submitted in eps, pdf, or jpg format.*
For each donation over $50, you can receive a Walkathon t-shirt IF you let us know your color preference and size.
If you have any questions, or would like to make an immediate donation, please contact Chris Cournoyer at 563-505-6703 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or send your donation (payable to Cody PTA) to Cody School, Attn: PTA Walkathon, 2100 Territorial Road , LeClaire , Iowa 52753. Please indicate your contact information, a logo, or how you would like your name printed on the shirt, and, if you would like one, your t-shirt size, and color(s) (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple) NO LATER THAN APRIL 27th.
Sponsorships will be accepted until April 27th so t-shirts can be ordered and printed in time for the event.
VOLUNTEER: We appreciate your support of this event and of course, you are welcome to join us on May 20th for the event to either walk along with the students or help count laps. Parents, grandparents and younger siblings are welcome!
Every student and faculty member will wear their Walkathon t-shirts to school on the day of the event and it really is a sight to behold! We will take a group photo that will be submitted to the Bettendorf News and posted on the Cody School website.
There are many benefits of having a Walkathon:
- Every child will be able to participate since it will be held during school hours.
- It promotes fitness as a “heart healthy” event.
- Every child will get a t-shirt, promoting school pride and spirit.
- It is a “fun” fundraiser that eliminates any door-to-door sales by our kids.
- It is an “in house” fundraiser, meaning that 100% of the money raised stays at Cody School to support the school(s).
